How to Organize a Neos Sprint

:light_bulb: How to Organize a Neos Sprint

Want to help push Neos forward and bring the community together? Organizing a Neos Sprint is easier than you think – and it’s a great way to make a real impact. Here’s how you can get started:

:date: 1. Define a Timeframe

Choose a few days that give enough room for collaboration – sprints usually last between 2 and 5 days. Avoid public holidays or major event overlaps, and try to plan with some lead time.

:round_pushpin: 2. Pick a Location

You can host the sprint in an office, co-working space, or even a quiet meeting room – whatever works best for your group. Make sure there’s enough space, Wi-Fi, and power.
Want to keep it flexible? Combine it with remote participation so others can join from anywhere.

:technologist: 3. Choose a Theme (Optional)

While some sprints are open-ended, it helps to have a rough focus or goal – for example:
“Improving the Neos UI,” “Working on Neos 9 features,” or “Exploring new content editing concepts.”
You can also build on recent community discussions.

:handshake: 4. Find an Organizer (That’s You!)

As the organizer, your job is to bring people together and handle basic logistics. You don’t need to be a core team member – anyone from the community can do it!

:hotel: Accommodation

As always, participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.
However, as the organizer, it’s super helpful if you provide a short list of recommended hotels, hostels, or guesthouses that are easy to reach from the sprint location.

Ideally, your list should include:

  • the name of the accommodation,
  • address,
  • a link to the website or booking platform,
  • and a brief note on how far it is from the sprint venue (e.g. “5-minute walk” or “direct tram connection”).

You can also add helpful notes like price range, whether breakfast is included, or tips for public transport connections.

This small gesture can make travel planning much easier—especially for those coming from out of town.

:memo: 5. Set Up a Sign-Up Link

Create a quick sign-up using tools like Doodle, Framadate, or a simple form. This helps estimate participation and gather contact info.

:megaphone: 6. Share It with the Community

Once you have the basics in place, spread the word via Slack, Discourse, social media, and neos.io. Need help with marketing or visibility? We’re here for you. Please reach out to us (@marika, @Marc or @markusguenther on Slack) so that we can announce the sprint in neos.io!
